{"id":128,"date":"2021-08-29T23:08:25","date_gmt":"2021-08-29T23:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/?p=128"},"modified":"2025-01-06T15:57:46","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T15:57:46","slug":"exporting-canadian-grain-the-handling-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/exporting-canadian-grain-the-handling-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Exporting Canadian Grain &#8211; The Grain Handling System"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/canadian-grain-exporter.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-501\" style=\"width:302px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/canadian-grain-exporter.jpg 800w, https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/canadian-grain-exporter-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/canadian-grain-exporter-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/barr-ag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/canadian-grain-exporter-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Grain industry is heavily regulated in Canada.&nbsp; That means customers from overseas can always be provided with reliable, consistent product.&nbsp; The <a href=\"www.grainscanada.gc.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Grain Commission<\/a> (CGC) is an agency of the federal government.&nbsp; It makes sure that all grain exported from Canada has been through the regulated <strong>grain handling system<\/strong> and has been officially certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Canadian grain<\/strong><\/em> such as oats, barley, wheat, and oil seeds are exported internationally and often travel great geographical distances.&nbsp; Although <strong>Canadian grain<\/strong> are transported in massive quantities, they are not stored in terminals.&nbsp; They are stored at farms that produced the grains.&nbsp; Then, when a certain kind of Canadian grain is wanted by an international customer, it is delivered from the farmer and moved into export position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canada&#8217;s Grain Handling System<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada\u2019s unique <em><strong>grain handling system<\/strong><\/em> guarantees quality assurance as it defines and applies quality standards on all <strong>Canadian grain<\/strong>.&nbsp; The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inspection.gc.ca\/eng\/1297964599443\/1297965645317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Food Inspection Agency<\/a> registers varieties of grain grown in Canada after the specific plant lines are evaluated by the CGC. &nbsp;&nbsp;To ensure all Canadian grain is reaching specific standards, the CGC uses grain grades to describe the quality of grain.&nbsp; These grades and standards are reviewed regularly to make sure they meet the needs of customers and the needs of <strong>Canadian grain producers<\/strong> like Barr-Ag Hay and Grain Exporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Grain Commission is always engaged in scientific research to better understand grain quality and discover new ways to grow, handle and ship it to Canada\u2019s international grain buyers.&nbsp; There are ongoing studies and research that continuously improve the grain grading system.&nbsp; This helps the <em><strong>Canadian grain export<\/strong><\/em> industry understand how different grains reflect quality and what can be done to make it better.&nbsp; The scientific research also helps growers increase harvest quality.&nbsp; Grain samples are gathered and analyzed from <strong>Canadian grain producers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the grain moves through the <strong>grain handling system<\/strong> from farm to export facility, it is checked that accurate weights are maintained throughout the process and that the grain itself is safe.&nbsp; Then when it is in the last stages of the <em>grain handling system<\/em> the grain is inspected at export to ensure that the grain meets Canada\u2019s grain standards.&nbsp; Even as the grain is loaded onto the vessel at the export terminal it is being monitored to ensure the correct weight is loaded.&nbsp; At that point the grain is issued a Certificate Final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<i>The Certificate Final is Canada&#8217;s assurance that your shipment meets Canadian quality and quantity standards. For each export cargo of grain from Canada the Canadian Grain Commission issues a Certificate Final.
